Archaeology Notes

NO64SW 29.02 61894 43585

An early example of a Royal Naval Air service (RNAS) control tower of four stories in height, the tower incoprates a fire tender shed.

The building measures approximately 18.9m x 9.8m and incorporated an air traffic control office (ATC), reception area, boiler room, duty office and switchgear room, some of which may have been more recently converted to other uses.

The control tower is visible on postwar vertical air photographs (CPE/Scot/UK 243, 3014-3016, flown 22 July 1947).

Information from RCAHMS (DE), October 2005
