Archaeology Notes

NS55SE 331 5695 5089 to 5700 5087

A water course and drainage system known as the Revoch Cut was recorded here during a field survey of the East Revoch farm area (see also NS55SE 330). At this point the Cut has become shallower and narrower and affected by modern disturbance. A 2m x 2m bridge once crossed the drainage system at NS 5687 5087. This has since been filled in partially and the water course diverted around it and through a more recent concrete pipe. The piped water crosses under a farm track and exits through an outlet with a casing 1.15m x 0.4m x 0.45m. The water emptying from the concrete pipe drops downhill onto a paved overflow area of medium sized stones embedded in concrete and terminates at an area of marsh. The Cut can be traced to NS 5674 5101, where it has been filled in.
