Peterhead, 10th Jan. A brig foundered off the Buchanness [Buchan Ness], seven miles to the South this morning: an oar has been washed ashore marked 'CR': crew drowned.

Peterhead, 11th Jan. The brig which foundered off the Buchanness [Buchan Ness] yesterday morning, proves to be the SCOTSMAN, of Aberdeen, as part of her materials with her name, were cast on shore this morning.

(Classified as brigantine: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 11 January 1849). Scotsman: this vessel foundered off Buchanness [Buchan Ness], [and subsequently] came ashore at the Ropeworks, Peterhead.

Registration: Aberdeen. Built 1825. 101 tons burthern. Length: 20m. Beam: 5m.
