Activities

Field Visit (19 January 1989)

The remains of a Pitcarmick-type building are situated on the leading edge of a grass and heather-covered terrace some 640m E of Castle Pirnie cottage. It is round-ended, measuring 13.5m WNW-ESE by up to 6.7m in width at the broader W end, over walls spread up to 1.5m in thickness. The entrance is central to the SSW wall, which is thicker at this point, and has an outer baffle (3.1m long overall) on its W side; the floor-level at the ESE end of the building is slightly sunken round the WNW end to form a small enclosure to the W of the entrance. A group of small cairns (NO 06 SE 102) lies to the E.
