NLO: Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81]

Stromness [name: HY 253 090].

Stromness, 3rd April. 'The JARROW, Morrison, from Liverpool to Hambro, has been assisted in here, having been on shore in the Pentland Firth, where she unshipped her rudder, received other damage, and slipped an anchor and chain.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 9075, London, Tuesday April 11 1843.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 7776).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary; the location of the stranding may lie within the quasi-administrative area defined as Maritime - Orkney.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 28 September 2005.
