Field Visit (19 January 1989)

NO06SE 106 0535 6444

Situated on a turf and heather-covered, S-facing slope some 290m NE of Castle Pirnie cottage, there are the footings of a building which has a subdivided enclosure on its S side. The building, which measures 8.6m E-W by 3.8m over heather-covered stone wall-footings (0.7m thick and 0.4m high), has two compartments, each with an entrance on the S.

The remains of a second two-compartment building are situated immediately downhill to the S. It measures 10.8m WNW-ESE by 3.9m over heather-covered stone wall-footings (0.8m thick and 0.6m high), and the entrances to both compartments are in the SSW wall; there is a drainage hood on the uphill side of the building.

Situated beside a burn a further 40m to the SE, there are the remains of a building measuring 5.9m NW-SE by 4.1m over heather-covered stone and boulder wall-footings (0.8m thick and 0.4m high). There is a central entrance in the SW wall and a later pen has been constructed at the NW end.
