Field Visit (June 1988)
The principal building of this farmstead is set parallel to the contour; it is of at least three compartments (there are traces of what may be a fourth compartment at the SSE end) and measures 29.6m from NNW to SSE by 6.4m transversely over stone walls generally reduced to their footings but standing to a maximum height of 0.6m. The largest compartment, that on the SSE, is a byre with three lateral drains about 1m broad, and there may be a fourth drain in the central compartment. At its NNW end a second building is set across the contour, measures 11.3m from NE to SW by 5.5m over stone wall-footings, and is adjoined on the NW and SE by a large rectilinear enclosure, whilst to the NNE there is what may be a potato store measuring 9.4m from NNE to SSW by 3.4m transversely over stone wall-footings. The farmstead is depicted as ruinous and named 'Ruidh Chonnuill' on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire, 1867, sheet 23), and Stobie (1783) places the settlement of 'Rinnaconer' at approximately this location (but see also Nos. NO 06 NE 9 and 12). J Stobie 1783
