Activities

Field Visit (27 October 1987)

NO05NE 54 0632 5641.

The remains of a hut-circle are visible on a terrace at the E end of a group of small cairns some 40m NE of the easterly of two burial-cairns (NO05NE 25) on the S side of the Pitcarmick Burn (NO 062 564 - NO 064 564). The hut-circle (NO 0640 5640) measures about 6.7m in diameter within a wall reduced to a stony bank 1.5m in thickness by 0.2m in height internally and 0.4m in height externally. A single inner facing-stone is visible on the NE, and many of the boulders protruding from the outer edge of the bank, including an irregular line on the W and a massive slab 2m long on the S (possibly outcrop) probably belong to the outer face. The wall is probably no more than 1m thick. A gap on the ESE may mark the position of the entrance.

About forty-five cairns and several banks are scattered across the knolls to the W of the hut-circle.
