NLO: Loch Dunvegan [name centred NG 21 53]

Dunvegan Head [name centred NG 177 568]

Waternish Point [name: NG 232 671]

Skye [name centred NG 45 35].

Possibly on map sheets NG15NW, or NG25NW.

Grangemouth, 12th May. 'The VIGILANT, Taylor, from Glasgow to Archangel, was driven on shore about 6th inst., near Dunvegan, Isle of Sky [Skye], crew saved.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 6220, London, Tuesday May 15 1827.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6567).

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. Loch Dunvegan is an extensive loch set into the NW side of Skye, to the W of Waternish.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 25 April 2005.
