Archaeology Notes

NG41SW 8013 unlocated

NLO: Skye [name centred NG 45 35].

The MARCHIONESS of Stafford, from Skye to Leith, was stranded at Skye during a heavy gale on the 11th instant.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 5736, London, Tuesday September 24 1822.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6233).

The map sheet assigned to this record is entirely arbitrary. It remains uncertain on which side of the island the stranding occurred.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 7 April 2005.
