The site of this filled in quarry is marked by grass- and weed-grown mound of earth and stones, measuring 42.5m from NW to SE by 7m transversely and up to 1m in height, which stands at the foot of a NE-facing scarp immediately N of the track leading SW from Thrumster House. The quarry, together with two small water-filled hollows to its NW, is shown within an area of rough pasture on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix). It is annotated 'Old Quarry' on the 2nd edition of the map, which does not show the smaller pits (Caithness 1907, sheet xxix). The quarry is depicted on the OS 1:10,000 map (1975), but it is not annotated.
