Archaeology Notes

ND34NW 78 ND 34108 45808

This disused quarry is situated in the N corner of an improved field about 240m NE of Upper Thrumster farmsteading, and immediately SE of the road public road (A9T). The interior has been partly filled in from the NE, and the part which remains open measures 30m from NNE to SSW by 30m transversely and up to 2.3m in depth. The quarry is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix), as well as the modern 1:10,000 map (1975).
