Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 426 ND 32974 44202

This rectangular enclosure, which is situated on a low rise about 380m NE of Melbourne Cottage farmsteading (ND34SW 183), is largely overgrown with gorse, but it measures 18.7m from NE to SW by 9.3m transversely within a tumbled drystone wall. The enclosure is depicted on both the both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
