Archaeology Notes

ND35SE 8094 c. 368 509

N58 26.5 W3 5

NLO: Wick [name: ND 361 508]

Wick Bay [name centred ND 376 506].

The SHAWFIELD, of Greenock, was driven on shore near the entrance of Wick Harbour, in a gale from the SSE, on the night of the 9th instant, but was expected to be got off with little damage.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 5423, London, Tuesday October 26 1819.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6043).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Wick Harbour (ND35SE 66.00) is centred at ND 36820 50670.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 7 March 2005.
