Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 375 30504 40455

This disused quarry, which is situated in heather moorland 240m E of the ruins of the farmstead of Old-dam (ND34SW 265), is roughly triangular on plan, measuring 6.2m from N to S by 3.6m transversely and up to 1m in depth on the E. The quarry is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix) and it was probably opened to provide material for the farm track that runs past its open W side.
