Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 331 ND 34099 43718

This disused quarry is situated immediately W of the Thrumster to the Mains of Ulbster public road about 100m N of Rose Cottage. Irregular on plan, the grass-grown pit measures 15m from E to W by 14m transversely and up to 1m in depth. The quarry is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxx; 1907, sheet xxx); on the latter it is annotated 'Old Quarry'.
