Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 214 33721 44689

This disused quarry is situated in a relatively flat area of rough pasture 30m NE of the abandoned farmsteading ND34SW 213. Kidney-shaped on plan, it measures 9.7m from NE to SW by 5.4m transversely and at least 0.5m in depth. The interior is filled with rushes and there is a low upcast bank of spoil along its lip. The quarry is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
