Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 221 33222 43763

This disused quarry is situated within a cultivated field 290m E of Borrowston farmsteading (ND34SW 315). Roughly oval on plan, it measures about 40m from N to S by a maximum of 10m transversely and it has been dug into an E-facing rise to a depth of at least 2.5m. The quarry is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
