Archaeology Notes

HY51SW 10.02 54117 11836

The Battery Observation Post (BoP) is situated about 30m S of No.1 gun-emplacement (the more southerly emplacement). Constructed of shuttered concrete and steel it measures approximately 7m by 5m and stands to about 6m in height.

On the upper level is a viewing platform with a canopy supported by a steel beam. On the platform is a plinth with a depression range-finder' still in situ. Some wooden window framing survives around the opening for the viewing platform.

Several windows and ventilation slits are cut through the elevations of the tower and the entrance is on the N side.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE, GS, SW), August 1999
