Activities

Field Visit (2 September 2022)

Situated on the beach on the W side of Cramond Island are two concrete blocks 4.3m apart which are identical to that on the rocky shore at the N end of the island which served as an anchor for the anti-submarine boom that stretched over to Inchmickery (see NT17NE 286). Both blocks are pyramidal but with a flat top and measure 2.07m by 1.67m at the base with the sloping sides rising about 1m to the top which measures 1.34m by 0.93m. Both have a large steel hoop embedded in the top and, on opposing sides, steel hoops with a length of chain attached.

Visited by HES Archaeological Survey (J. Sherriff, A. McCaig) 2 September 2022.
