Note (16 February 2022)
Netherlea is depicted on the revised 2nd edition of the OS 25-inch map (Fifeshire 1894, IV.2). It is annotated ‘Netherlea (Maternity Hospital)’ on the 1959 edition of the OS 1:10, 560 map (NO42NW Angus-Fife, revised 1954). The house was converted to a hospital in July 1948, the first to be opened in Scotland following the creation of the National Health Service (Fife Free Press & Kirkcaldy Guardian, Sat 24 July 1948, p5). The conversion was undertaken by St Andrews architect Frank Pride (Dundee Courier Friday 23 July 1948, p2). It closed in 2011. The building was demolished in 2019 and replaced by modern apartments.
