Present location: in Brechin Town House Museum.
Evidence for discovery: found on the north bank of the River North Esk after a flooding episode in 2003. Its location lies within a narrow bend of the river.
Present condition: all edges are broken and worn, but the carving is clear.
Description
This small fragment appears to be part of a larger carved slab. It bears a hollow within an incised circle, with a possibly symmetrical incised pattern on either side.
Date range: early medieval.

Artefact Recovery (2003)
A fragment of carved stone was found on the path on the north bank of the North Esk, near Edzell, after a major storm and flooding. The stone has been assigned by the Treasure Trove Advisory Panel to Brechin Town House Museum (04/03).

The date of the stone is uncertain, but the combination of a ringed cup-mark and a pattern of incised curved lines is reminiscent of the Pictish symbol stone, Littleferry Links no.3 (NH89NW 2).
