(HY 4224 2073) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 25" map, Orkney 2nd ed., (1900).

The dovecot near Hall of Rendall is roofless and in poor condition. Its internal diameter is 12 ft 3 ins and the wall is about 4 ft thick.

RCAHMS 1946.

The dovecot is about 10 ft in diameter at the top and about 18 ft high.

Publication Account (1996)

This attractive beehive dovecote with its four external string-courses is unique in the Northern Isles. The nests for the pigeons are simply irregular gaps left in the rough masonry of the internal wallface.
