OS 6" map, (1959)
A stone cist 5' x 2'7" was discovered on Feb. 4th 1897 at Latham Quarry (Newhouse Quarry). Inside were the fragmentary bones of a man, and an Early Bronze Age knife-dagger 3 1/8" long with three rivets. The upper stone of the cist had on its lower surface eleven cup marks.
In 1916 Coates found that the cist had been re-erected on the surface of the ground, a few yards back from its original position. (H Coates 1919) The knife dagger is in the National Museum of Antiquities where is also a stone whorl 1 1/8" diameter from the same quarry, presented by Trotter. (PSAS 1899) (Accession no: EQ 242)

There is now no trace of this cist. The quarry is now in use as a rubbish tip. No information could be obtained regarding the cist so it must be presumed to have been buried amongst the rubbish.
Revised at 1/2500.
