NO02SE 1 0692 2494.

(NO 0692 2494) A tumulus noted by Crawford in 1940 and thought by him to be the Round Law noticed by Pennant. (OS 6" map, annotated by O G S Crawford; J Pinkerton 1809) Additional reference (M E C Stewart 1961)

A small stone hammer of gneissose was found near the tumulus c. 1885 and was donated to the NMAS by Dr R de Bros Trotter, Perth, 13/5/1895. (PSAS 1895)

J Pinkerton 1809; Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1895; M E C Stewart 1961.

A large, oval, cairn of earth and stones measuring 32m N-S by 28m E-W and about 5m in height. There is a suggestion of a ditch but this is caused rpobably by an old plantation bank around the base of the cairn. Surmounted by trees, otherwise good condition.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (W D J) 27 October 1965.

This cairn is situated within an arable field and is surmounted by trees. There is no change to the existing description.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, RJCM), 6 November 1995.

NO 069 249 A watching brief was completed in March 2004 on the excavation of a narrow trench for the burial of an electricity cable in close proximity to a Scheduled cairn (NO02SE 1). No archaeological deposits or artefacts were encountered.

Archive to be deposited in the NMRS.
