Archaeology Notes

NT86NW 86 centred on NT 84805 69910

A trackway and linear cropmarks have been recorded on oblique aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1999) on sloping ground about 600m WNW of Lowries Knowes. Two parallel linear cropmarks, which are probably ditches flanking a trackway, run roughly from NE to SE. Further linear cropmarks cross at right angles, at least two of which are canalized streams leading to a mill pond to the SE, and are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Berwickshire 1858, sheet v).
