NLO: Latheronwheel [name: ND 190 325]

Wick [name: ND 362 508]

Lybster [name: ND 248 355]

Forse [name: ND 220 341].

Possibly beyond Scottish waters.

Wick, 6th Dec., 1.6 p.m., a ship's nameboard, marked "MATHILDE", has come ashore at Latheronwheel: also a figurehead and some broken wreckage at Forse, near Lybster.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,541, London, Saturday December 9 [1876].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4475).

(No classification or cargo specified: date of loss cited as December 1876). Matilde: nameboard and wreckage washed ashore between Latheronwheel and Lybster.

(Location of loss cited as N58 17.00 W3 20.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are arbitrary, being derived from the unverified location that is cited by Whittaker for the discovery of wreckage. The vessel presumably foundered out at sea, possibly beyond Scottish waters.

The date cited is that of the reported discovery of wreckage.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 5 October 2004.
