NLO: Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].

St Margaret's Hope, 5th June, part of a vessel's boat, cream colour, marked on stern "GALLOWAY, Glasgow", has been picked up in Pentland firth [Firth].

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,385, London, Saturday June 10 1876.

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4404).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived from the reported location of discovery of the boat; a location within the quasi-administrative area defined as Maritime - Orkney may also be assigned. The parent vessel probably foundered out at sea (in either the Atlantic or the North Sea), probably beyond Scottish waters.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 4 October 2004.
