(NO 0608 1620) Old House of Invermay (NAT)

OS 6" map, Perthshire, 2nd ed., (1859)

The ruins of a tower and a few apartments are all that remain

of the Old House of Invermay. This was the former residence of the Belshes which fell into disuse c. 1770-80 when the present mansion was built (NSA 1845).

NSA 1845; Name Book 1860.

The Old House of Invermay has been completely restored during the last 20 years and a new roof added this year. On the south side of the building, above a doorway, is a stone with the date 1633 thought to have come from above a window (now bricked up) in the north side (Information from Lady Jean Wemyss, Invermay). The date is also considered to indicate a restoration (Meldrum 1926).

Visited by OS (E G C) 23 November 1965.

N Meldrum 1926.
