NLO: Sinclair's Bay [name centred ND 37 56]

Wick [name: ND 362 508].

Possibly on map sheets or ND35SW.

Wick, 28th Mar., 10.57 a.m., the VICTORIA (schnr.), of Krageroe, bound to this port, with billets, has gone ashore on rocks in Sinclair's bay: crew saved: the cargo may be recovered if the vessel keep together.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 18,701, London, Monday March 30 1874.

Wick, 28th Mar., the VICTORIA (schr.), Osuldsen, of and from Krageroe, for this port, with timber, while riding in Sinclair's bay, parted her cable during a sudden gale, about 1 a.m., today, and before any effectual efforts could be made to keep her off shore was driven on the rocks, where she still lies and will probably become a total wreck: crew landed. [Report received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4103).

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), which may suggest that she was successfully recovered.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 8 September 2004.
