Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 8005 unlocated

NLO: Whaligoe [name: ND 320 403].

Possibly on map sheet ND33NW.

Wick, 31st Dec., a board, supposed to have been attached to a boat, marked 'JOHN BAILIE, Prestonpans', and a piece of wood, apparently part of a compass-box, marked 'V.Z.L. & Co.', have been picked up at Whalgoe [Whaligoe], a few miles from here.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 18,317, London, Friday January 3 1873.

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 3898).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived from the reported location of discovery of wreckage. The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 10 August 2004.
