NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 3793).

(Classified as wooden schooner, in ballast: date of loss cited as 21 April 1872). Maori: this vessel hit [the] Carr Rock, and sank in 13 fathoms. Capt. Coull. 'To be sold 29th may'. All gone?

Registration: Montrose. Built 1864. 124grt. Length: 27m. Beam: 7m.

(Location of loss cited as N56 16.50 W2 35.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Carr (or North Carr) Rock is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but may be tentatively equated with the rock upon which stands North Carr Beacon (NO61SW 25), at NO 6471 1153. This is at the NNE end of the Carr Brigs [name: NO 645 113], off Fife Ness.

Montrose is presumably cited in the primary account as the port of report.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 23 July 2004.
