Archaeology Notes

NN92NW 15 9050 2956.

(NN 9051 2952) "Cairn-circle; mound high and stones nearly all visible. (This is probably the supposed grave of one of Wade's road-makers: if so, the stone by the Giant's Grave is more likely to be the real 'Ossian's Grave'. But the whole tale is fantastic)."

OS 6" map annotated by O G S Crawford, 27 April 1940.

NN 9050 2956 - A small, grass-covered cairn, 7.5m diameter and 1.0m high, situated in gently undulating ground. The peristalith is defined by several large stones protruding through the turf. Date and origin could not be ascertained without excavation. No further information on the traditon or origin of the Giant's Grave, which is situated 90.0m to the NW, could be found.
