An 'ancient castle' (New Statistical Account [NSA] 1845), the only remains of which were a mound or heap of stones overgrown with grass and trees.

'Keilor-house in ruins.'

The present Keillour Castle (the correct spelling) was built about 1850 on the site of the earlier castle and incorporates in its basement remains of the latter (Major W G Knox- Finlay, Keillour Castle). There are no other remains of the earlier structure.
