The field boundary is depicted on the Ist edition OS 6-inch map (Perthshire, 1866, sheet CVIII).
Information from RCAHMS (JH), 28 January 1998.
Scheduled as Ash Keys, enclosure and possible moated homestead.
Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 11 December 2002.
This enclosure and field boundary have been recorded as cropmarks on oblique aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1984, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2000) lying on level ground about 470m SW of Kirklands of Damside. Only the N and E sides of the enclosure have been recorded but it has probably been rectilinear on plan with an entrance on the E. Two additional linear cropmarks lie parallel to the ditch on the E and indeterminate cropmarks surround the enclosure.
A field boundary, depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire, 1866, sheet cviii), passes the enclosure to the S.
Information from RCAHMS (KMM), 2 July 2004.
Field Visit (1996 - 2003)
Russell Coleman managed an Historic Scotland funded project to record medieval moated sites in Scotland. Gazetteers were produced for each regional council area between 1996 and 2002 with an uncompleted overall review in 2002-03. The results of the first year of the project were published in Tayside and Fife Archaeological Journal, Volume 3 (1997).
Aerial Photographic Transcription (2 November 2017)
An interpretative transcription, or mapping, of information on oblique aerial photographs was produced on 2 November 2017.
