Archaeology Notes

NN65NE 8001 unlocated

NLO: Loch Rannoch [name centred NN 59 58].

Possibly on map sheets NN55NW, or NN65NE.

(Classified as iron steamship, and date of loss cited as 6 February 1882). Gitana: this vessel foundered in Loch Rannoch. She was all gone by June 1978, and subsequently wrecked on shore.

Registration: Glasgow. Built 1881. 54grt. Length 27m. Beam 4m).

(Location of loss cited as N56 42.0 W4 12.).

I G Whittaker 1998.

This vessel was raised by the then University of Herefordshire SAC (BSAC 380) in the early 1970's.

Source: Diver, 4.11 (April 2003), 82.

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary. The location cited by Whittaker remains unverified.

This vessel was presumably a loch pleasure steamer, a type of vessel then popular.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 29 June 2004.
