Activities

Field Visit (4 November 1997)

This grass-grown burnt mound is situated on the W bank of the Culnakirk Burn. C-shaped on plan, it measures 13.3m from NE to SW by 7m transversely and no more than 0.4m in height. The hollow in the open side, which faces towards the burn on the SE, is lined by large stones, set in two parallel rows 1.7m apart. A sod was lifted on the date of visit, revealing that the mound is composed of revealed cracked stones and charcoal set in a matrix of black soil.
