Archaeology Notes

ND35SE 8074 unlocated

NLO: Wick [name: ND 362 508].

Wick, 7th Aug. 'A yawl, 15 feet long, maked 'WILLIAM COOKSON' inside the stern, was picked up at sea 31st ult.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 8245, London, Tuesday August 11 1840.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 7564).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived from the location of the reporting point. It is unclear whether the yawl was the parent vessel or the tender. The vessel may have been recovered beyond Scottish waters.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 10 June 2004.
