Traces of a possible WW1 training trench system was observed on RCAHMS oblique aerial photograph E36616, (RCAHMSAP 2003), to the S of the Barry Ridge ranges (NO53SE 37). The system was probably more extensive and part of it may have been lost to coastal erosion.
Information from RCAHMS (GDT) 21 May 2004
The trench system is visible on RAF WW II oblique and vertical air photographs (S 233, 57-58, flown 17 June 1941 and D 309, 4998-4999, flown 26 June 1941). The air photographs show the system was an extensive one, but the only part that would appear to have been lost to coastal erosion is an W-E trench running out through the dunes to the sea.

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)
