Archaeology Notes

NR89SW 83 82977 90632

The site of a former prisoner-of-war camp is situated about 300m SW of No.8 Lock on the Crinan Canal. A postcard view of the camp shows it consisted of about twenty wooden huts and one Nissen hut spread over an area now covered by a modern housing estate and the Forestry Commission Workshops. The main group of huts were centred at NR 82977 90632 and a second group adjacent to the canal.

The site is now occupied by a small housing estate annotated Letter Daill on the current OS digital 1:2500 scale maps.
