25 February 1874, JANUS, Official No. 17,919, wooden schooner, 31 yrs old, of Inverness, 74 net tons, Owner J. McIntosh, Inverness, carrying coal (118 tons), departed N. Shields for Inverness, 5 crew, 5 lives lost, wind ESE12, foundered half mile off Bullers of Buchan, Aberdeenshire. Vessel was seen to founder in a severe storm.

List of British Sailing Ships which have been reported to the Board of Trade as having foundered between the 1st of January 1873 and the 16th of May 1880.

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 2941).

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
