NLO: Wick [name: ND 362 508]

Wick Bay [name centred ND 376 506].

Possibly on map sheet ND34SE.

3 August 1876 (supposed), NANCY, about 5 yrs old, of Wick, wooden lugger, 15 tons, 5 crew, Master and Owner G. Bain, Mavsey, near Lybster, departed Lybster for fishing, in ballast, thrown on beam ends, 5 lives lost, partial loss, a few miles S. of Wick Bay, Caithness-shire.

Source: PP Abstracts Returns of Wrecks and Casualties on Coasts of the UK 1876 - 77 (1877 [C.1891] LXXV.181).

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 2798).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary. The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), suggesting that she was successfully refloated.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 14 May 2004.
