Glasgow, 25th Dec., the VESTA (Russ. barq.), Lindemann, from Granton to Kiel, with coal, was totally wrecked on the Embo shore, 22nd Dec.: crew saved. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4529).

(Classified as wooden barque, with cargo of coal: date of loss cited as 23 December 1876). Westa (Vesta?): this vessel stranded 4 miles East [sic.] of Dornoch, between Embo and Coull [Coul]. Capt. Lindemann.

Registration: Finnish. Built 1866. 359 tons register.

(Location of loss cited as N57 55.00 W3 59.75).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. This vessel apparently stranded on the southern end of Coul Links or Sands, about 5km NNE of Dornoch.

The date of loss that is cited by Whittaker differs from that cited in the primary account; the latter is preferred.
