Mitchell (1923) mentions a burial ground at Chapelton where there were ruins of a church till c. 1770. A large tombstone is over the doorway of Old Fincastle House, and another occupies a similar position at Mains of Bonskeid, probably from the burial ground.
H Mitchell 1923.
This burial ground is at NN 8697 6150. It is still in intermittent use. The oldest legible gravemarker is 19th century. There is no trace of the church, but the tradition is still known and what may be the font lies outside the S corner of Chapelton farmhouse.
The alleged tombstone at Old Fincastle House is in use as a window lintel and bears the date 1640, a biblical text, and the initials IS and CM. The stone at Mains of Bonskeid is dated 1688 with the letters JS and AO. Neither can definitely be identified as a grave stone.
