Archaeology Notes

NN86NE 17 centred on 878 696

In the area centred on NN 8784 6966 there is a depopulated settlement comprising fourteen buildings, two corn-drying kilns and several enclosures, generally visible as partially grass covered walls c 0.6m high. The buildings vary from 5.5m x 2.0m to 27.0m x 3.5m. The settlement was deserted c 1850 and although there is no known name for it, it falls in an area called Croft Crombie.

(Previously recorded as NN86NE 16) In the area centred on NN 8747 6895 there are the remains of thirteen buildings, two corn-drying kilns and associated enclosures, forming a depopulated settlement. The remains are generally visible as partially grass covered walls c.0.5m high and the buildings vary from 6.0m x 3.0m to 19.0m x 4.0m. The settlement was deserted c.1850 and although there is no known name for it, it falls in an area called Croft Crombie.

Two unroofed buildings, two enclosures and what may be two phases of head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xxi). Twenty-five unroofed buildings, nine enclosures and some field walls are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1989).
