(NN 8863 5058) Jury Stone (NR)

OS 6" map (1902)

The 'Jury Stone' consists of three huge irregularly fractured fragments of whinstone. The gaps between the masses of heavy stone were said to be widening yearly. The surfaces are smooth and except for a small space near the middle, very rounded. Probably a stranded boulder.

F R Coles 1908

This is a natural boulder.

Information from M E C Stewart, 15 December 1964.

A large frost-shattered erratic. The name 'Jury Stone' is still known locally.

Visited by OS (BS) 11 February 1975
