Archaeology Notes

NN85SE 2 8859 5248

(NN 884 525) The ruined polygonal chamber of a Neolithic chambered tomb, called locally 'The Giant's Grave', sited on a knoll which may be in part artificial.

Information from M E C Stewart, 14 December 1964.

The cairn has been removed except for the heap of stones, 3'6" - 4' high, enclosed within a circular wall 21' - 25' across. The main feature, within the wall, is a group of three upright contiguous slabs, evidently forming the back of a chamber.

A S Henshall 1972.

NN 8859 5248. 'The Giant's Grave', the scant remains of a chambered cairn as described and illustrated by Miss Henshall.

Revised at 25" scale.

Visited by OS (SFS) 12 February 1975.
