Archaeology Notes

NN85NW 2 8474 5972.

Two artificial islands in Loch Tummel were investigated by Mr Hugh Mitchell. The smaller island, of closely placed stones, is 25' in diameter. The larger, illustrated by Blundell, is probably that described on NN85NW 1.

F O Blundell 1913

The smaller island is probably that at NN 8474 5972 (OS 6" map, 1900) which Mr A MacRae (The Museum, Falls of Bruar) believes is artificial. Mrs Christie (Borenich, Loch Tummel) remembers it being an island composed of small stones with a single tree growing on it. It is now submerged. The larger island undoubtedly is a reference to An t-Eilean (NN85NW 1).
