Archaeology Notes

NN84NW 20 8030 4907 and 8072 4927

(NN 8030 4907) 'Tobar Eonan', a well dedicated to St Adamnan, is in the garden of the manse at Dull.

G Bain 1893.

The well shown at NN 8030 4907 on OS 25" map, Perthshire, (1900), immediately outside the S wall of the manse garden is probably the one refered to by Bain. There is no local tradition about it, although it appears to be old, and the name is not known. According to Mr Cameron (D Cameron, Dull) ), an elderly inhabitant, an old well set into the foot of a brae at NN 8072 4927 and still containing a little water, is traditionally St Adamnan's Well.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (J B) 4 December 1974.

The well at NN 803 490 is 'Tob Eodhnain', dedicated to St Adamnan.

A D S Macdonald and L R Laing 1973.

It is not clear from ground evidence which site is St Adamnan's Well.

Visited by OS (J R L) 1 December 1978.
