NLO: Fair Isle [name centred HZ 21 72].

Possibly on map sheets HZ16NE, or HZ26NW.

3 December 1876, JOHN FILDS, 11 yrs old, of Berwick, wooden dandy, 50 tons, 5 crew, Master W. Jamieson, Owner Shetland Fishing Co., Glasgow, departed Scalloway, Mainland, Shetlands, for Aberdeen, in ballasts, decks swept, 1 life lost, partial loss, wind SE11, off Fair Isle, Shetlands.

Source: PP Abstracts Returns of Wrecks and Casualties on Coasts of the UK 1876 - 77 (1877 [C.1891] LXXV.181).

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 2800).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary and it remains unclear whether the vessel was lost in the North Sea or the Atlantic.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), suggesting that she was successfully recovered.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 31 March 2004.
